Ppl who say that he was in his “emo phase” in hobbit always pmo a little bit bc it feels like they refuse to actually engage with his character any deeper than just seeing him as attractive. He was acting the way he was in hobbit bc he was still following his father’s orders without question, Thranduil building him up to be the second version of himself: closed-off, cold and selfish. However in those movies Legolas got a chance to rebel against it when presented with the view of other races being no less important than elves (and his care for Tauriel gave him strength to finally realise that, although I think he already had those thoughts before, just never acted on them). After that rebellion his morals and ideals visibly clashed with those of Thranduil and he had no choice but to leave his kingdom because he didn’t associate himself with what they stood for anymore. In lotr we see him 60 years past that: 60 years of exploring the world, meeting new people and building a new and authentic version of himself, hence why he’s so much calmer, compassionate and kinder while still keeping his personality. My goat never gets credit on his arc and it breaks my heart 😭

A cool characteristic of Legolas that they kept from book to movie was the snowy mountain scene in fellowship. In the book, he was described as so agile that he could stand/walk on top of fresh fallen snow while the rest of the company had to wade through it. They show that in the movie and a lot of people missed it.

one thing that annoys me about this is it always felt like there was a natural progression to Legolas' superhuman feats in the LOTR movies, of him trying more and more difficult things. In Moria he tests out running along the chain to jump on the troll. On the way to Helm's Deep he attempts to backflip onto a horse. In helms deep he skateboards on a shield. All building to taking down the Oliphant. but with the addition of the Hobbit it makes it feel like he was holding back in LOTR.
