I grew up in the Bible Belt. I remember the Satanic Panic, all too well. I shake my head, still, at how ridiculous it was. The adults just went out of their minds and made sure us kids were scared into the same mindset.

Ahh yes, the Satantic panic, around the time Reaganomics changed the economic landscape. I’m beginning to think that the harsher the economic disparity the more prevalent the conspiracy theories. Seems that conspiracy theories diverts attention into the denial of personal economic reality. Maybe that is why politicians often keep them alive.

This made me remember the Bible tracts. For those who don't know they were beautifully hand drawn hand-sized comics in the 80s warning you that the devil was everywhere and in everything. They would just appear randomly all over the place. The devil would be crawling out of books, in the music notes, all the shadows... gave me a good laugh.
