Goza-no-Ishi Shrine sits on the northern shore of Lake Tazawa in Akita Prefecture, Japan. The shrine stands on a unique flat rock called the “Goza-ishi,” which resembles a woven mat. In 1650, feudal lord Satake Yoshitaka reportedly rested on this stone and admired the deep blue lake, making the spot famous. 🌅 The shrine, formally established on October 17, 1911, is dedicated to Tatsuko-hime, the legendary guardian spirit of Lake Tazawa. According to local folklore, Tatsuko was a young woman who sought eternal beauty and transformed into a dragon, forever tied to the lake.
