@telebabyaustralia: This baby’s toe was swollen and red, but it wasn’t an infection. It was caused by a single strand of hair wrapped tightly around the toe, cutting off blood flow. This is called Hair Tourniquet Syndrome. It can happen to a baby’s toes, fingers, or genital area, often after bath time when loose hair sticks to moist skin. The area can look red, swollen, and painful, and if not treated, it can cause serious damage or even amputation. If you can see the hair, gently remove it with tweezers or forceps. If it is too tight, you can use a tiny amount of hair removal cream for a few minutes, then wipe it off, but only if the skin isn’t broken and not on the genital area. If you can’t remove it, see your doctor. Always check your baby’s fingers, toes, and genital area after bath time, or if they seem fussy or uncomfortable. It is rare, but important to know. 👶 #telebabyaustralia #hairtourniquetsyndrome #babysafety #babyhealth #babyfirstaid
