Thank you for talking about this! This has been a pattern for almost our whole marriage when it came to my older kids from my previous marriage! I kept thinking I was crazy with feeling like this wasn’t right and to keep the peace I started to parent the way he wanted me to (with fear/critical/demanding respect) while he showed little to no respect or accountability himself and my kids have unfortunately greatly suffered! They are 13 and 14 now. I finally woke up and stopped parenting the way I felt forced to by him and that’s when the abuse and anger and fights got way worse! We also have a 3 year old daughter together that he’s better with but still has no patience for and I have been her sole caregiver 98% of the time. The “lack of respect” thing has been a mantra he’s used against my children for years and to belittle and insult me as a mother. Thank you for sharing your story. I don’t feel as alone.

Your videos are triggering for me but also therapeutic. It’s been 25 years since I left my narcissistic husband. I remarried a wonderful loving man, but I don’t think I ever processed what I had lived through. You are very brave. I feel your speaking for all of us. Their behaviors are so much alike. The stories I could tell.
