@whitefaceford: A $50 Part Now Requires a $1,000 Driveshaft Manufacturers say reducing parts will make repairs simpler, but it’s hitting customers hard. We show how a once-serviceable bearing now forces a full driveshaft replacement. Do you think this really helps the industry or just costs more in the long run? #WorkTruck #DriveshaftRepair #AutoIndustry

They did the same thing with control arms. You can get bushings or even ball joints in some cases now, you have to get the entire control arm.

That's not reducing parts complexity, that's reducing repair choices

For a few years around 2016 ram heavy duty trucks made the carrier bearing completely non serviceable I can’t think of a reason why and the replacement shaft was $2k. Absolutely stupid

May not increase the cost. After th customer has to pay you to take the carrier bearing off and out the new one on

It's still available in the aftermarket, however, it might not be worth the labor to disassemble mark and reassemble the driveshaft so that you don't get any vibrations then replacing the driveshaft, don't forget to add the labor cost of replacing that component in with the component

They make aftermarket ones all over the place. Rather spend $100-300 on an easy part to change than $1200 on a driveshaft. It is such a common problem on those mopar’s

Just ran into the similar issue with Ford F-550 front radius arm bushing… ford recommended a full front diff change says the bushing is not serviceable for 2017+ models…

Can you not match it up at a bearing shop? I work for a John Deere dealer and we do stuff like that. But I understand if you guys only run oem parts.

Usually this guy sounds intelligent, that was the most backwards example. Look at semis, the use like 3 part numbers across all make for like 50 years. It’s great, but now the semi brands want to be like auto and force you to come to them for parts or throw away the truck
