I was all over JamaicaTok during Hurricane Melissa. It was a language immersion course. After 3 days I was nodding along and replying in Patois in my head. Except for the St Ann’s dialect. I didn’t crack that one 😆

Patois is officially defined a Creole language. People confuse a heavy Jamaican accented English (which is a dialect of English) with patois.

It is a language as it has its own phonological, morphology, syntax, lexico-semantics. Most people do not know this because it is not standardised in written form. Also Jamaican Creole/ patois is on a spectrum. You have the acrolectal, mesolectal and basilectal speaker. Also each person has their own idiolect depending on where they are from in Jamaica....Anyways Google is free

completely different... grammar is different odd word choice ( by eng standard) I was neighbors with an old yardi couple, they would talk with me & I would just politely smile saying yes and laugh when they laugh 🤷
