“He will be the biggest superhero in the eyes of my kids.” The wife of a British racing driver pulled from the wreckage of his burning Farrari by a rival has credited him with saving her husband’s life. Ollie Millroy was racing in a China GT event at Shanghai International Circuit when two cars smashed into his Ferrari. Video of the incident shows the 36-year-old's car spiralling off the track and bursting into flames. Dutch rival, Loek Hartog, then abandons the race, pulls up beside the wreckage and rescues Mr Millroy. A camera near his driver’s seat shows the 23-year-old furiously working to free his rival from the flames. Mr Millroy has thanked the Dutchman for saving his life, saying: “I am still alive tonight, entirely thanks to one man. Loek Hartog stopped instantly with no flag marshals or fire crews in sight and risked his own life to get me out of the car. “I don't remember anything between 30 seconds before the crash and one hour after it, but I will remember his incredible act of bravery for the rest of my life. “One day I will tell our three kids this story and Loek will be the biggest superhero in history in their eyes too. I'm laying here tonight with five broken ribs, broken collar bone, broken hand and finger and a bruised lung, but it could have been much worse. “Thank you Loek. I owe you my life for your selfless act today.” The father-of-three's wife, Fern, posted on Instagram that her husband had suffered six broken ribs, a broken hand and a punctured lung. And that he had undergone a four-hour surgery on Sunday and is due to have another operation on Monday. Mr Hartog said that when he saw the crash he “genuinely believed the driver might not be able to get out by himself”. He said the incident was “scary” and at times he didn’t know if he would actually be able to save Mr Millroy. “But this isn't about what I did, and I'm sure many people in the same position would have reacted exactly the same way.”
