I do the opposite. Canada is officially bilingual (English and French) and I live in Quebec which is mainly French. If I am at a store/ restaurant and address the employee in English, and they refuse to reply in English, I usually tell them off in German and leave without buying anything. If I don’t understand you, then you don’t understand me 😋

I have a C2 englisch level, i think it would actually be more effective to just speak englisch in a horrible german accent to me or smthn😭😂 very fun idea though, might try that with my german family xD

I expected everyone to be completely fluent in English but some HS boys who were friends with the family I stayed with weren’t great students and therefore didn’t know what I was saying; it’s easy to forget it’s a school-learned 2nd language
