My flight from Guangzhou China (CAN-PEK on the domestic style B777) to Beijing we had a smoking section in 2 rows of econemy plus and last row of busines was smoking when I flew China southern in 2013.

I can remember smoking on planes. The last 4 rows of seats on the last European plane I flew on before the total ban. I annoyed the woman sat just in front of me in the no smoking section. No barriers, the smoke drifted over her. 😳

Used to make me smile when you were asked at check in. “Smoking or non smoking” We would say non smoking but you could easily be sitting behind smokers. Thank God we’ve moved on.

And FAA still has a rule for an ashtray and no smoking sign in bathroom, I believe, because ppl trying to sneak one there.

You can still technically smoke on planes in Australia if you’re not expressly told not to do so beforehand either verbally or permanently fixed signage
