@chickenschmidtfarms: Replying to @roॐ The term processing isn’t used to be deceitful. It’s a term that fully encompasses all the steps from living bird to meat on the table. #farmchores #homestead #cornishcross #meatchickens #process
Processing is a better word. It is a process from start to finish! 💜

I actually prefer “processing” over “harvesting”.

Processing is definitely more accurate, there are many steps involved, it doesn't detract from the facts either.

How’s the meat birds’ meat? Similar to store bought or more stringy?

people love to think they're all high and mighty with comments like that but honestly if there was a way to harvest meat from animals without killing them we would've figured it out by now

I can hardly wait … we are out of chicken which has been a staple for us and has proven to lower my cholesterol as we now eat an equal amount of chicken as we do beef and pork

People also don't understand the health risks of keeping a meat chicken (most often the Cornish X Cross breed) alive for longer than the usual age of processing. Meat birds are bred for meat, and will get so hefty that their legs will quite literally break from their own weight. So processing that young is also more humane, and it keeps the birds from losing quality of life.

Why do you not feed them for 24-48 hours? Is it to clean out their digestive tracks and make cleaning them less likely to contaminate the meat?
