The SIL saying “OP made me realize I was a lesbian” was NOT what she should have said. Especially since she claimed she knew she was a lesbian prior to OP moving in. I completely understand how/why the brother might’ve misconstrued what she said while the world he’s built for so many years was collapsing around him.

Thank god for the commenters in the end for pointing out the brother was dealing with a collapsing world. His mind was just trying to make sense of everything and all he could think of was her saying that and how they spend so much time together. Not saying its right but when your world implodes its hard to think straight. (no pun intended) They both werent the jerks....just didnt know how to deal with things at the time. Hope they get help and move on.

Maybe it’s bc I’ve been in the brother’s situation before. But he deserves more grace than given. They have been married 7 YEARS. He thought he was with thr love of his life and ended up with someone who wasn’t in love with him at all
