there's likely a closet somewhere or somewhere in the basement (if you have one) where all those Ethernet cables in the walls come together to connect to an Ethernet switch. without the switch the wall jacks wont work

You have a hub somewhere in the house that will branch to all of those outlets. Ethernet is a RJ45 jacket and phone lines are RJ11 so they are Ethernet. You’re just plugging your modem into output not an intake.

if it is Ethernet then they all should lead to a closet area where they all need to connect to a device called a switch. The switch needs to be connected to the router and that should provide Internet to all the ports.

All the ports should have a termination point. This is generally where the patch panel will be, then from there you will allocate each port/outlet to a port on a switch. They won't all be linked together (That would cause a loop)

You probably have a patch panel somewhere, where the other end of each cable ends up. There you can patch them in to a switch
