In my opinion they are only another way to stick it to a homeowner by making you buy something that isn't necessary.

GE is coming out with Bluetooth breakers so you can remotely update the firmware to fight nuisance trips. 💪

They've gotten better over the years but you still can't run power tools off them. Vacuum cleaners are hit or miss. The Siemens ones were terrible when they first came out but I haven't used Siemens in years so not sure if they got better

If arc faults are so critical, why isn’t it required to be installed in every old home in the US?

not needed in Indiana. 😁 Indiana is so far behind on the NEC code still on 2017 for residential and 2020 for rew residential construction. even with the 2020 they have amended to remove the arch fault Breaker as well. 😂

The only thing that drives me nuts in arc faults is when I’m working on a live circuit and ground the neutral and trip the damn breaker. I was trying to avoid having to turn it off lol

Definitely. When my dad was coming up as an electrician in ‘78-80 the old heads he worked with were mad they couldn’t do K&T and in wall splices anymore. Back then they said f* grounds you have a neutral….

Makes sense, my old man had the same energy about the aluminum wiring of the 70s. Things have progressed but there is still a stigma out there.

I still hate em. The time and money they’ve cost me going back to customers houses just to reset them or replacing them and explaining to the customer that it’s not my wiring, it’s these damn breakers. Arc faults have definitely created doubt in my customers minds. Bump that. Now they’ve dumbed em down to where they don’t nuisance trip as much. So to me, they’re basically a regular breaker with a white pig tail, but they cost 7 times as much. We’re getting cheated. It’s a scam.

only been an electrician for 12 years and I haven’t had that big of a problem with them. If everything is wired correctly it is usually just a simple electrical mistake, it has only been newer lights with transformers and imported appliances to really be a problem
