@shouldideletethat: PATERNITY LEAVE IS POLITICAL!!! Really proud to bring you this episode with @dadshiftuk and @pregnant_then_screwed today - as two newish mums ourselves we have skin in the game but stepping back to look at the wider picture this is a HUGELY important conversation, whether you have kids, want kids or for whatever reason, don’t. This issue, to our mind, under pins so many of the cultural attitudes we have towards gender and our assigned roles and for that reason alone, this episode is HUGELY interesting. The stats are mad, the stories are heartbreaking and the support is essential. Listen to Should I Delete That? wherever you get your podcasts xxx

It’s honestly horrendous! I’m currently pregnant with crippling HG at the moment and that’s just about as much as I can handle on my own without my husband - i am TERRIFIED if the HG doesn’t go away immediately after birth and I have to look after a baby! Like genuinely scared. Two weeks is no where near enough!

My husband had 1 week, we couldn't afford him to take a 2nd week unpaid. I had a csection, awful mental health 🥺 he didn't qualify for anything as he got a new job at another school whilst I was pregnant

As a mum I didn’t get any time full paid JUST SAYING! I got 6 weeks 90% leave then stat pay post c-section. Could only take 6 months. My husband got 2 weeks full pay, more than I did! 🤷🏼‍♀️

We are both self employed. I get £180pw for my maternity leave and he gets £0. We can’t afford for him to have time off! Trying to start a family in this country when you’re a working couple, especially if both self employed, is a joke!

Having your parter go back to work 2 weeks into your 6 week recovery, post c-section should be a crime - from a mum who felt that in her SOUUUL 😣🙇🏻‍♀️

My husband is self employed and had no time off at all as he wouldn’t get paid :( I was fortunate my own mum helped me so much but couldn’t have survived if I didn’t have that

My husband is self employed and had to go back to work while I was still recovering in hospital from an emergency c-section for a week, when our son was born 6 weeks premature. We received no financial support from the government for him.

I got out of hospital on the Sunday afternoon & my partner had to go back to work on the Monday, I had zero time to adjust to our life with 3 under 2! I cried when he was leaving the house but he had no choice being self employed 🙁 xx

My partner is self employed, he got offered around £164 a week. He said he’d rather just not even apply for it. We had 10 days together, which for me was simply not enough. Even dealing with PPD had a worse impact on me.

Switzerland is also embarrasing! 14 weeks for mothers paid 80% and 2 weeks for dads 🤗 also, if mothers extend with unpaid leave, their jobs are not secured and is common practice to make them redundants
