hammocks dont work everywhere. that's why i just use a military grade cloak/pancho. it's both the perfect rain gear, and allows me to sleep anywhere without pitching anything.

I tried hammock camping once. Even had a huge tarp over the top. Guess what happened? It rained, HARD all night and my hammock was FULL of water. The water runs down the straps and straight in to the hammock. The tarp is basically useless
