✥ Carsin Schmidt ✥ :
No these are not “qoute mines” anyone who says that doesn’t understand the fathers or the Church’s position. The position of the Church is that we are justified by faith and not by works but works justify faith. - We are not justified by works because we are justified by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, by His grace, but we cannot be justified without works.” Thus, works are not the reason of our justification, not the cause of our justification. Works fail to justify us,but works are a condition for keeping the grace and the justification that we received from the Lord Jesus Christ.
`- Pope Shenouda III (being quoted by H.E Metropolitan Youssef, on Ephesians`. The fathers like Saint John Chrysostom, Saint Ambrose, and Saint Jerome are in a agreement with this, and very interestingly, so are the priests who Saint Constantine consulted with about the faith following his miracle
- But as few, even among holy men, are capable of complying with this latter condition, another method of purification is set forth, namely, repentance; for God, in his love towards man, bestows forgiveness on those who have fallen into sin, on their repentance, and the confirmation of their repentance by good works.
