“The Youth Will Lead The Way” Come on NYC let’s Goooo!!! Please everyone in NYC get out and vote because the world is watching and we need you to break the cycle of hate! Here are five main points from Zohran Mamdani’s mayoral campaign platform in New York City: 1. Housing & rent affordability • Freeze rents for all rent-stabilised apartments. • Create a publicly-owned Social Housing Development Agency to build ~200,000 permanently affordable homes. • Stronger tenant protections and stronger enforcement of landlords’ obligations. 2. Transit and mobility reform • Make all city buses free (fare-free) by 2027. • Freeze subway fares; speed up buses (priority lanes etc) as part of a bigger public transit overhaul. 3. Expanding public services & lowering cost of living • Universal childcare/early-education (from 6 weeks through age 5). • Establish city-owned grocery stores (one in each borough) to keep food prices down. • Raise minimum wage to ~$30/hour by 2030. 4. Public safety & community services • Create a new “Department of Community Safety” focused on mental-health outreach, crisis response and social supports, shifting some responsibilities away from traditional police enforcement. • Invest in services for homeless students, children in shelters, and improved support in schools. 5. Tax reform & funding mechanism • Raise the corporate tax rate from ~7.25% to ~11.5%. • Impose a 2% surcharge/extra tax on individuals earning more than $1 million annually. • Use the revenue to fund the housing, transit, services and affordability agenda. - @jei.sheng.wang
