Yep, I’m a photographer and I can attest to this. That’s why when you meet celebrities in person they either look a lot better or they look worse. Lens distortion is real.

Not just plastic surgery but I always notice beauty service businesses trying to make the “before” pic uglier by using different camera lens, lighting, hair, clothes… Puts me off immediately

I’m a pro photographer and there’s this phenomenon where young people think their faces actually look like their selfies — with the distortion. My colleagues who shoot senior portraits have had to deal with facial dysmorphia when the senior complains that their portraits don’t look like them and don’t like them. Bc they were shot with a long lens.

Regardless of the lens distortion here, there’s def a transformation that’s occurred. With that being said it’s super important to understand how much lens distortion impacts how we view ourselves and other people.
