It’s really annoying to me that influencers are invited to things that are already popular. The major marathons are already impossible to get into, it’s not like these are no name projects. They don’t need to influence anyone to run like it’s so frustrating

Hot Take: I’m low income and I don’t care about running a world major. There are a million other marathons. I’m not going into debt to run a race because it’s a major. I’ll never run for a charity and raise thousands of dollars while I can’t even afford to get a cyst cut out of my mouth.

I had to raise $10,000 (did it for Parkinson’s and my father). The journey to get there and waiting was so draining. They just get a VIP bus and tent. Crazy that they just get it handed to them.

I’m here to support everyone but I’m not going to lie. I spent a year raising almost 5k for a charity that I feel really passionate about and then sat on a curb for almost 2 hours before running Chicago. I feel honored to have done that….having a personal bus, heated tent, available bathrooms and food! Idk it just doesn’t seem totally right to me

I know not all influences are bad but id like to see some real people be chosen for once. I personally have never been influenced by a well known influencer to run a race. im more motivated by the slower paced, older or those with disabilities still crossing the finish line. just my take 💓

As someone who was gifted a bib to represent a brand with under 3k followers, I agree. I really believe that creators should look for ways to give back, whether that’s supporting a charity, raising awareness, or hosting a community event before or after the race. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity, but I also understand why people feel like it’s starting to get a little out of hand.

I’m an influencer for the major brand. I did not run the New York City marathon. I was never gifted a bib with that being said I don’t believe influencers should’ve gone before elites. That’s just not cool. I’m OK with influencers being given bibs but they should be bringing awareness to RUNNING in a good light.

I agree with a few comments that said that they should be fundraising as well. Use all of those followers for good, even if they raised $1,000. Something. Also it’s the NYC marathon, it’s popular all on its own lol.
