Why are yall saying “no” as if what he said isn’t true? He said they originally wore flat brimmed hats, that’s correct. He said Stetson then released a high crown, wide brimmed hat. Also true. Just because he didn’t include the fact that Stetson was inspired by the Mexican sombrero doesn’t make that not true, it’s just a cool fact yall can add without being contrarians. Stetson’s hats were also different because they were made of felt which was lighter than the animal pelts typically used for hats back then. And the up-turn of the brim that came later was unique to American cowboys/the Stetson hat that was produced because of it, & has become the iconic cowboy hat. That part wasn’t copied, it’s just what became of the early hat that was inspired by sombreros, which were a blend of earlier Spanish & indigenous hats. Cultures have & always will inspire, share, mix, & evolve.
