#Repost @siantmiller ・・・ Creating Gonzales Caboto for Paddington in Peru with Antonio Banderas: The inspiration for this character, a Spanish conquistador from the 16C, stemmed from paintings of Hernán Cortés (the famous Spanish explorer) & the classic 1949 Ealing Comedy ‘Kind Hearts and Coronets’ ft. Alec Guinness who plays multiple, related characters, all distinct & credible but also intentionally recognisable as him. • Much like that film, director Dougal Wilson, the film’s producers & I were certain that the way to achieve this would be by employing the sum of many parts from the hair & make-up tool box, with mindfulness to very the tight schedule. • Initially I worked with concept artist Paul Catling, who put together images of Antonio incorporating the facial imagery I wanted to see for each character. For Caboto, I wanted a larger & more hooked shaped nose, some ageing around the eyes & forehead, with a head of lustrous hair, a full beard with moustache & full, well defined eyebrows. • @mcoulier created the prosthetics; a silicone nose & forehead piece, which were applied by myself & @cherylmitchellmakeup with @fangsfx creating the gold framed tooth.
