My mother in law logged into our bank account regularly the first year we were married. When I changed the password my father-in-law called my husband to yell at him for hurting his mom and that’s how we found out.

That is identity theft. Pretty straightforward.

How I’d handle it: review your credit reports for any other unauthorized activity, freeze your credit, cancel the card, report your MIL for fraud, and cut her off. Doesn’t matter who it is— this is complete fraud and identity theft.

The men never complained about their moms only thr wives. First red flag. Let him deal with his parents.

My mother in law and SIL wanted to buy our wedding rings... it's an intimate choice and then they still got it and they were incorrect sizes...

This couple needs to lock down their credit right now! He needs to do a deep dive to see if she’s has any other secret credit cards or loans in his name!

Do we know that is identity theft? 🤨 That’s a crime, not a boundary violation.

My MIL was on my husbands bank acct from when he was a minor and was taking out money he ‘owed’ them when she wanted to after he asked her not to while he was deployed, as he’d just pay lump sum when he got home. She didn’t stop, so I taught him to move the money and close the account which didn’t require her sig. she was paying her credit card.
