@momming_in_style: I grew up hearing things that taught me to shrink — to stay quiet, to please, to endure. But becoming a single mom taught me something different. I realized I can’t rewrite the past, but I can raise the future differently. So here’s what I’m unlearning as a South Asian woman — and what I’m teaching my son instead: 1. “A woman’s place is in the home.” 👉🏽 I’m teaching my son: That every place belongs to women — boardrooms, stages, and homes alike. 2. “Boys will be boys.” 👉🏽 I’m teaching my son: Accountability makes a man, not excuses. 3. “Don’t bring shame to the family.” 👉🏽 I’m teaching my son: That integrity matters more than image. 4. “Men don’t do housework.” 👉🏽 I’m teaching my son: That chores don’t have a gender. 5. “What will people say?” 👉🏽 I’m teaching my son: To live for peace, not for approval.
