try painting a rough draft sort of first layer like a basic blueprint that will map out a foundation. after its dry go back and build up your shades/highlights and focus on the detail. dont be afraid to leave behind the brush strokes, add texture, or even incorporate a painters knife to smudge and smear the paint onto the canvas. Oil is tricky to master but the best results I've had have come from not being afraid of mistakes or " imperfections "
