✨ Inside Chicago’s Uptown Theatre for the first time in 45 years! ✨ Hidden in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood is one of the most breathtaking historic movie palaces in America. And thanks to Open House Chicago 2026, I finally got to see inside! 😭 🎭 Welcome to the legendary Uptown Theatre! Opened on August 18, 1925, with a grand parade, this architectural masterpiece was designed by Rapp & Rapp in the lavish Spanish Baroque Revival style. With 4,381 seats, magnificent chandeliers, sweeping staircases, intricate carvings, and even a perfume system beneath the seats, this wasn’t just a movie theater. It was a MOVIE PALACE. 👑 After closing in 1981, the Uptown Theatre has remained shuttered for 45 years. Today, restoring this Chicago landmark is estimated to cost a staggering $190 MILLION. 📸 Here’s what makes this footage so special: Photography was originally prohibited during Open House Chicago. However, when we visited on Sunday, theater staff allowed and encouraged us to take photos and videos to spread awareness about this extraordinary building and its need for restoration. And after seeing it with my own eyes, I understand why. They simply don’t build places like this anymore. Chicago has some of the most beautiful architecture in the world, and the Uptown Theatre deserves its second act. ❤️ Would you visit the Uptown Theatre if it reopened? 🎬 📍 Uptown Theatre | Uptown, Chicago, Illinois #uptowntheatre #chicagoarchitecture #openhousechicago #chicagohistory #explorechicago
