I interpreted slightly differently, where he experienced this trauma but couldn’t come to terms to believe that it was caused by humans. That it’s better to believe heartless aliens are causing suffering to us all than the reality that we are causing our own suffering

I think the ending was left for the viewer to decide, they can either choose to accept that teddy was right and justify everything from that point of view but they can also conclude that her fear, the brain damage and trauma she experienced pushed her to succumb to the detached from reality thinking and made her experience psychosis at the end

This is a great theory but one inconsistency is that Teddy does blindly trust that the antifreeze is a cure and pays for that dearly. If the message is for us to trust and that the aliens are benevolent this doesn’t really make sense

The very very end sequence to me was showing that our planet will be fine whether humans are here or not. Even the animals would be fine without human interference - it’s really up to us humans to decide if humans should survive and thrive here and right now it’s not looking to good…. 😌

most of all I enjoyed that they kept you guessing if the hints were a red Herring or if it was real. up to the last moment I was sitting on the edge of my seat as she grabbed the calculator and took it to the closet. I like your interpretation, but mostly I overthink things too often, and just enjoyed that I could turn my brain off and experience the events unfold.

I disagree- it's about how we cling to explanations that soothe us rather than help us. michelle wasnt a villain bc she was an alien, but bc she was a ceo of a corp that ruined teddy's life. it's easier for teddy to cope with the former than the latter, bc that requires recognising that humans only have ourselves to blame, and only we can do the hard work of saving ourselves.
