@flex: What’s actually in period blood? Let’s break it down. In this video, you’re seeing a microscopic view of menstrual fluid—made with fake blood and a brand-new cup for the shoot, don’t worry. Under a microscope, what looks like “just blood” is actually a complex mix of red blood cells, uterine lining tissue, immune cells, and secretions. The red blood cells give that deep red color—they’re the same oxygen-carrying cells running through your veins. The white blood cells you see crawling around? They’re your body’s cleanup crew, fighting bacteria, clearing tissue, and regulating inflammation. The cell fragments and tissue bits are parts of your uterine lining—breaking down and shedding as your body resets for a new cycle. Sometimes you can even spot tiny yellowish crystals, called hematoidin crystals, formed when blood breaks down in low-oxygen conditions. It’s wild to think your body orchestrates all this every month, quietly rebuilding itself from the inside out.
