@queercollectivepodcast: Is there really much of a difference between bi and pan anymore? Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments . Hearing you say “it feels more queer” hurt my heart. As if to say my queer experience as a bisexual was lesser than yours.

can we retired the misinfo that bi is binary and that only pan people can experience attraction regardless of gender? they’re basically interchangeable and to say otherwise is to erase a ton of bi history and bi people’s experience. It’s like saying rectangles can’t be squares.

the difference for me is that I prefer the colors of the bi flag to the colors of the pan flag. I dislike yellow.

I think the difference is the preference for a gender, pansexuals are “genderblind” (no preferences) and bisexuals do have preferences 👀

I don't think there's any real distinction that holds up to scrutiny, especially historically.

As someone who identifies as bi, sometimes the discourse over pansexuality just feels like another way to deminish my queer experience and it really fucking sucks. We fought for this label and this line of thinking often comes across as just another way of telling me I’m not queer enough.

As a former pan, now bi, i think they can be interchangeable. Respect the path paved by those before us

I hate this. Saying bisexuality is “less queer?” We know how prevalent and harmful biphobia is, even in our own community, and this felt like more of it tbh.

I understood the difference as bisexuals can be attracted to any gender, pansexuals can be attracted to anyone, regardless of gender.

I prefer the term “bisexual” because that is the term that older generations fought for. They fought to be included in LGBT, they fought demonization during the AIDS pandemic, and they’ve fought bi erasure with that term. Using “pansexual” now feels to me like it’s not respecting the battle our Elders fought to be taken seriously

As a bisexual, first person's definition was pretty biphobic 😬 like wym it's "binary" and pan is "more queer" dawg the literal bi manifesto from the 90s even says we're not limited to 2 genders
It's just is gender a factor of attraction to you or not. Yes? Bi. No? Pan. In practice obvi veryyy similar but it's an emotional nuance per person, hence the two labels (s/o all my pan siblings 🫶)

As an older millennial who identifies as bi/queer it’s mostly because that’s the first term I heard that fit my experience. And I prefer the bi flag colors. That’s it.

Bi is an umbrella term, pan is a subsect of it. Bi can include such things as pan and poly or nicher homoflexible and etc. Bi is just an umbrella term for people who are attracted to more than one gender the specifics of it are other labels within.

As a trans bisexual, it is very queer and not rooted in the binary.

As a pansexual, it is about being attracted to the intellect of a person versus what parts they may have. Side note, pansexual is a branch of bisexual and can be used interchangeably

I prefer bi as I no meaning you experience more than one sexuality. Saying bisexual is less queer is a wild statement.

🫤 in the '90s you were either gay or lesbian or you were bisexual. as somebody who came out as bisexual in the '90s that encompassed everybody. we were attracted to everyone. it's a hearts not parts situation. gender didn't matter, the person did

I feel like pan suits me better. The way I describe the difference to people, for me at least, is that bi feels like someone who likes all genders. For me, gender is irrelevant. It’s such a small distinction that many don’t see the difference but it FEELS like a difference inside. Ultimately I don’t care what people want to describe me as though, especially since most just assume I’m straight.

Not the good convo they think it is. Yikes. The only valid difference is pan is dog people energy and bi is cat people energy.
