Ubuntu and Linux Mint are the only two real options if you're a noob. Like, it's not even close. Until SteamOS gets its own desktop release backed by valve, only use Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

TLDR "I deleted windows and went to the most obscure Linux distros with limited support and had a terrible experience"
Your first Linux experience needs to be on a standing distro, Mint, Ubuntu, etc. they have support, lots of kinks worked out, and you will have a way better experience.

Not to be that guy, but this all sounds like issues that originate from just not knowing what you're supposed to do. Follow some online tutorials, RTFM, check game compatibility, etc. For example, on your laptop with the 5090 did you install and run Nvidia Prime with the game, cause otherwise it'll default to the integrated CPU graphics, did you check ProtonDB for if the game needs some launch commands to run properly, etc.

Use CachyOS, AFTER you install it, open an application called "CachyOS Hello", look for an option called "Apps/Tweaks", and there, you will find and option called "Install Gaming Packages".

CachyOS is so much better but still requires some hand holding compared to say Mint.

You chose to try a small distro that is still in its infancy. Use a main line distro or your going to keep having problems. I've had no issues gaming on KDE, mint, ubuntu most mature Debian based systems have plenty of support for gaming.
