regardless of how it happened, nobody will convince me that horse racing at this level is not inherently inhumane

there are literally dozens and dozens of other sports for people to get into. why one with such levels of animal cruelty is glamorised is horrendous

I don't know much about horses but according to my friend who is an equestrian and owns a horse named Phoenix, apparently horse racing is super cruel and abusive

Yeah I believe that in ANY discipline if a horse draws blood ANYWHERE they should be disqualified like what you said, if it isn’t from track/rider and from a horse self injury, it doesn’t matter, it happened because the horse caused it for a REASON… I’ve been disqualified for blood on a grey horse (literally from a shoe nick) and I understood, yes I was upset because it wouldn’t have been seen on a darker horse but I understood that blood is blood. Yes accidents happen and can just be a accident but generally a horse won’t hurt themselves if nothing is wrong… same goes for people that excuse pain related behaviour to being “spicy/green/fresh”

while yes it could be he bit his cheek or tounge, but very high probability that horse is a bleeder! 99% of races horses are! bleeding is caused by ruptured capillary in the body from excessive heart pumping!
many horses are given lasixs which will stop that!
As you are not the trainer and personally involved in this horse you cannot for sure say what caused the bleeding!

I have never seen a horse bleed from its mouth ever. I hate horse racing and the cover ups. Did they drug test the horse or vet check it and let people know what the results were. In Australia there is 176 unalivings of horses on tracks a year. They treat these beautiful animals as disposable and it’s criminal. Thank you for yr vidio, we need to talk about this, take action.

What really surprises me is how casually some people say, “A horse in pain wouldn’t run.” I don’t understand that mindset at all. A horse that’s forced will run. An abused horse will run. At a certain point, the horse is broken down and learns that fighting back only leads to more pain, so it pushes through the suffering instead.
We see the same thing with people. When someone is in an abusive relationship, others tend to say, “Why don’t you just leave?” But that’s not how trauma, fear, and control work. Whether it’s a horse or a human, long-term abuse either phyiscal or mental can condition someone to endure pain because the alternative feels worse. And yet people keep making excuses..

I think Melbourne Cup crowd numbers are decreasing, partly due to a realisation that it's harming some of the horses, and just a general cultural shift. I'm sad he was in pain, but I'm glad he won and was plastered all over the news, coz it was a confronting image, esp for non-horsey people. I think it helped raise awareness for how harmful certain aspects of any animal betting sport can be. I believe Melb Cup does pre-race bone scans now to check for stress fractures, and breakdowns have dropped/stopped. For now.

Why do people feel the need to put animals in sports with risks of severe injury or death. What are the benefits and how are they outweighing the consequences

I feel deeply uncomfortable when my own horse presents with foam in the mouth, because I know it can be a sign of anxiety. It’s something we have been working on, aiming to make things more pleasant for her. So I literally cannot understand how the owner, jockey and trainer have no issue in seeing blood.
