Lindsay Clancy's first defnse witness today was Margaret Hamp, another nurse who worked with her in the labor and delivery unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Hamp testified about working with Clancy and said she "loved being a nurse" and "was really good at being a nurse." "She was compassionate. She was kind. She was a patient advocate. She was the type of nurse that you wanted taking care of you or your loved one when you walked onto our unit," Hamp said. She said Clancy "was often emotional during birth of complete strangers." "She would cry and she would just say, "That was so beautiful.' You could just tell that she really loved being in that setting," Hamp said. Hamp recalled working a night shift with Clancy when her oldest child, Cora, was a baby, and Clancy could see through a remote monitor that she was crying in her crib. "She started to call Pat, and he wasn't answering, and she got really worried that Cora was crying. But now Pat wasn't answering his phone, so in the middle of the night, she called the police to do a wellness check on her family," Hamp said. In cross-exam, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague confirmed no one was in danger that night. "And you worked with with her through 2022 when she went out with leave on Callan?" Sprague asked. "Correct," Hamp answered. "And you never visited their house after Callan was born, did you?" Sprague asked. "No," Hamp answered. "You don't know what was going on in her life, did you?" Sprague asked. "No," Hamp answered. "And she didn't share any of her struggles with you via text or in any other capacity, did she?" Sprague asked. "No," Hamp answered. Prosecutors in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, are seeking three murder convictions against Clancy for the Jan. 24, 2023, strangulation deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan. Her defense is that she's not guilty by because she was in a psychosis related to postpartum problems and didn't know what she was doing. #law #crime #court
