Ever heard of Sherman Sizemore? He was a patient that in 2006 went into surgery for abdominal pain and 16 minutes into the surgery his doctors realized they had forgotten to give him the anesthesia. He was awake. And to cover their tracks they pumped him full of an amnesia inducing drug and never told him or his family about the 16 minutes of surgery that he was awake during surgery. But even though he didn't remember the episode directly, his mind still had all this trauma it now had no way to comprehend. He took his own life shortly after and his family said that he was convinced he had been obducted by aliens. Because he had these nightmares about dark figures standing over him, disecting his body. .....I guess the point I'm trying to make here is that if you take away traumatic memories, then you'll also take away the minds ability to process that trauma. And nothing good can come from that.

I think a lot of people have one bad memory that absolutely wrecked and changed them as a person. So the question might become whether that person would still be you after forgetting that event

As someone that experienced recovered trauma memories, the brain realizes that something is missing that shouldn't be, when it comes to memories and causes its own kind of problems. So I didn't know why it made me feel unsafe to sit in the front of the bus, until one day I remembered what happened. Then it was easier to deal with, because I understood why I felt that way. Just because you don't remember why that makes you scared, it doesn't mean you stop feeling scared.

I’m not sure how this would work, I’ve heard some traumatic memories or like trauma can effect you even if you can’t remember it, so would removing… that’s sort of thing from your brain help?

probably not, even bad experiences can teach important life lessons thatd i might end up relearning through the same or even worse experiences not to mention id probably be upset with myself for gating keeping info from my own person i addition id rather not see this stuff funded tho i have a feeling it just might

Why bother? Everything is a diminutive return. There has to be a LOT of rich people still in denial to even bother wasting peoples lives doing this. The effort and experience alone isn’t worth it.

Maybe that would be good for ex soldiers with PTSD? But otherwise imagine you wipe memory of toxic ex soldiers you didn’t learn your lesson and choose next person who is toxic as well. Or you always wipe bad memories even small ones - you would not appreciate the happiness you have in same way.
