@sobatradiology: A dynamic TMJ MRI exam uses a series of fast MRI sequences to capture the movement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) as the mouth opens and closes, creating a “movie” to show how the joint’s components, like the disc and condyle, move in real-time. This method helps diagnose internal derangement and other TMJ dysfunctions that might not be apparent on a static (still) MRI. It evaluates the biomechanics of the joint and can reveal problems with disc position and movement that may cause clicking, pain, or limited jaw opening What a dynamic TMJ MRI shows? Disc displacement: Dynamic MRI can visualize if the disc is in the correct position or if it is displaced or “stuck” as the jaw moves. Joint function: It shows the biomechanics of the joint, including the relationship between the condyle (the rounded head of the jawbone) and the disc during function. Movement patterns: It provides a clear picture of how the condyle translates (moves forward) and rotates as the jaw opens and closes. Complementary to static MRI: While it cannot replace static MRI for evaluating internal derangement, it provides valuable functional information to be used alongside static images. #tmj #mri #technology #radiology
