I’ve actually used “I’m not the kind of girl who wears red to a wedding” as a way to explain that I don’t like to stand out. I don’t know where that quote has come from or where I heard it or if I just made it up to best describe how I feel about my personal style. But I came across this and maybe it’s a feeling other women experience too and why it might be controversial.

What!! I’ve never heard of this - too many rules. The only colour you shouldn’t be able to wear is white

if the bride has a personal opinion or preference herself it's probably best for her to advise it. For example, my sister didn't want any bold colours and literally gave the guests a colour pallet of neutral, earthy colours and soft greens to choose from. The pictures turned out so cohesive and if people only had white as an option she was totally okay with that and we still knew who the bride was lol. If it matters that much to the bride a courtesy "please no white, red or black" (whatever the circumstance may be) doesn't hurt

It is very controversial, but ai really did not give a crap what people wore to my wedding. If people coming to your wedding don't know which on the bride is, they should not be there.

Heheh as a female DJ one of my questions is ‘what colour am I allowed to wear’ and the comment ‘please just don’t wear white or red’ comes up with like every client 😂

I always just think if you are unsure stick to another colour or if that’s a TINY chance you shouldn’t wear that colour eg red (small chance bride may not want that) then just don’t wear it - there are SO many other colours to pick from and people often choose dresses and question it - if you have to question it don’t wear it. It’s a wedding and you are a guest I don’t understand why people just don’t stick to safe options to just avoid any drama at all - regardless if you think it’s suitable or not :) that’s my opinion 😂 I always stick to navy or black at weddings as I’m 1000% safe in them 🥰

Why are people so consumed with do’s and don’ts when it comes to colours. As long as you follow the dress code and don’t wear white, you’re safe. If you know the colour theme, that can be avoided too. Invitation print can sometimes give clues.

You can’t wear white. You can’t wear red. You can’t wear black. But also… most bridesmaids are a shade of pink of sorts so best to stay away from that. Literally what colour CAN we wear? I hate blue and green and orange. Would never wear burgundy. Florals seem… not quite it. Strugglingggggg tbh

I’ve never worn red because I’ve always been told it means you’ve slept with the groom 😅

I wouldn’t, just so many different meanings. Slept with the groom, disapproves of the marriage or trying to stand out. (Ie outshine the bride - you can’t, but it’s the attempt) My fave colour is red, but yeah wouldn’t risk it and wouldn’t even ask if it’s okay.
