I would never keep my shoes on in someone’s home. That’s tacky and classless.

I would turn it around on her and say, I feel like she's disrespecting me by not acknowledging this is our home. She's making me out to be the bad guy, she just doesn't like me.

Why do they think it ok for the mom to disrespect the gf by leaving them on?

a no shoe rule is wrong. the bacteria and foot problems from bare feet are a lot more problematic than a little dirt

You don’t get to decide what’s petty. It may not be petty to them. It’s cultural. Canadian bias over here though. No shoes in the house ever. You didn’t do anything wrong standing your ground

Erin :
We had a very hard and fast rule that you had to take your shoes off when you came into my house because we had three little babies, crawling around on the floors. Grandmas quickly took off their shoes.

She is the AH. Here in the Midwest, it's common practice to take your shoes off when you enter someone's home. If its a holiday or long visit, we bring slippers or cute socks to keep our feet warm

So many cultures are no shoes on inside. Mom is uncultured.

Definitely NTA! Being Asian, we never wear shoes in the house. There are tons of germs including bacteria and 💩 under shoes!

It sounds like the mother-in-law has been trying to exert her own dominance over the daughter-in-law and she’s losing - so now she’s just sulking.
