actually pearl, amber, coal are all more rarer than diamond and gold. coal especially. all coal come from a specific time in our planets history. it all comes from a time when plants made wood but the microbes haven't found a way to digest it. so all the dead wood just pile up, eventually get buried and then turned into coal. when microbes and fungi evolved to eat wood, no more coal are ever made again.
