@dariusryankadem: So the real damage isn’t that the child didn’t learn from the consequence. It’s that the container, the united, predictable system that helps them feel safe, cracked in front of them.
Love your content. But how do you ”set” consequences? If it’s an arbitrary action you create to ”teach a lesson” it’s a punishment. A consequence could be that you deal with a tantrum and then don’t have time to go to the park. If that is what’s actually happening. But ”I don’t like this, now you don’t get to go” is not a consequence.

That’s great for situations where you can can sync. What if you cannot "escape“ being with the kid? We basically agreed to follow the leader's consequence when we cannot sync. I’m not always happy with my wife’s decision, and the other way around. But we stay consistent. How do you deal with that?

my biggest anxiety when growing up was seeing my parents moving away and talking with each other aboutme. regarless of wether the outcome was positive or negative, it was the fact that they talked about me between each other while I was feeling left out, and when they returned my feelings were not considered. the only thing that mattered to them was to unilaterally decide what consequences they wanted to apply on me.

I try to follow through when my husband calls out a consequence for our 3yo (and I know he does with me). However at times, where one of us is calm and regulated, the other parent may be getting frustrated or emotional and respond with a consequence that doesn’t really align with the behaviour, and the calm parent needs to call that out? This happens to both of us at different times and neither of us know how to handle it because we ultimately agree that we need to be unified but also we do make mistakes, especially when frustrated - I don’t know how to handle this

That's not a consequence, with that wording towards your child that's punishment. It's understandable that the cancellation of the playground would be a logical consequence because a parent doesn't have enough energy to handle another meltdown. It makes a whole world of a difference though, how you explain it to the child. In the described situation the same explanation could have been given to the other parent in front of the kid without an issue. it doesn't shame them, it rather reiterates the point when explained calmly and reasonably. If you have to align with your partner first it's obvious that you're not liviing and patenting by actual values but instead use power structures.

This has nothing to do with parenting but it is interesting how TikTok is allergic to professional looking videos 😅. Apparently IG on the other hand prefers it so I hope you are getting engagement there. You have really good content! (but tbh: I did enjoy the examples from real life a tad bit more than this 🫣)

It’s all good. Misaligned parenting prepares children for the inevitable unpredictability of life! 🤣
