Many evangelicals today are taught that the Antichrist cannot appear until after the church is secretly raptured, and that the church itself is the “restrainer” holding back the tribulation. But there is a powerful irony in this belief that few ever stop to examine. The popular pre-tribulation rapture framework is rooted in futurist prophecy interpretation that arose during the Counter-Reformation era, shifting the Antichrist from a present, historical power into a distant future figure. In effect, prophecy was pushed forward so believers would stop identifying the Antichrist through history as the Reformers once did. For over a thousand years, historic Protestant interpreters connected the Antichrist with a long-standing system described in Daniel 7, 2 Thessalonians 2, and Revelation 13. They did not teach a secret removal of the church before trouble. Paul explicitly warned believers — the church — about the revealing of the man of sin (2 Thessalonians 2:3–4). If the church were completely removed before this event, why would Paul warn the church about deception surrounding it? The “restrainer” passage does not say the church must vanish for prophecy to begin. Instead, Scripture consistently prepares God’s people to endure deception, persecution, and trial, not escape it (Matthew 24:9–13, Revelation 14:12). The early church went through tribulation. The Reformers went through tribulation. End-time believers are called to faithfulness, not disappearance. Here is the danger: if people are taught that the Antichrist appears only after they are gone, they may not recognize prophetic deception when it develops right in front of them. Jesus warned that end-time deception would be so convincing it could deceive even the elect (Matthew 24:24). That warning was not for an absent church — it was for a watching, discerning, present church. 🔗 Learn more at www.theadventtruth.com #Jesus #BibleStudy #SeventhDayAdventist #Sabbath #TheAdventTruth stitching @Traci Coston
