When I was in high school my early childhood teacher had a tough breakup. I will never forget one day she came in and we all had real talk (class was all girls) for the whole time. Didn’t get out a single book or laptop. I’m 29 now & think about it often. I had never seen a teacher be authentic until then

See I love this. I did have teachers that were real and that’s why I wanted to go into education to continue that type of teacher. That teacher that was real told me “some teachers teach subjects and some teach kids” and I will live by that my entire career

When I was a kid, I knew my teachers as only teachers. I did not know about their family, the town they lived in, even the car they drove. I think that’s actually really important? To keep it professional and a formal position of power and knowledge. Honestly.

Exactlyyyyyy!!!! #ElementaryTeacher here and people always say “Don’t cry in front of your students”!!! Listennnn my 1 of my babies started crying yesterday bc it was her last day and of course I started crying hard too and then about half of the class started lollll!! Everyone started hugging each other and it was suchhhhh a beautiful moment!!! ➕ I think it helps the students realize you have a sensitive side when they see you as the strong one.

It’s a balance for me! I was dealing with a BAD breakup when I was teaching my first year. I put on a smile and the kids had no idea. Especially in that district, some kids’ only stable place was school and I wanted to contribute to that stability. I also have ADHD though and am very honest on days I’m more overstimulated! The balance of being real and being a safe, consistent person is so important and I absolutely agree we should be real with them xx
