@nz_liu: We took the JR Limited Express Azusa from Shinjuku Station to Matsumoto Station (highly recommend reserving seats 2 days in advance — you can use a JR Pass or buy single tickets). Then we switched to the Alpico Kotsu Kamikochi Line from Matsumoto to Shin-Shimashima Station (tickets available at vending machines, Suica not accepted). From Shin-Shimashima, we continued by bus — tickets booked earlier via japanbusonline.com. Make sure to plan your schedule carefully! Bus tickets are non-refundable and cannot be changed after the departure time.
