Many of my clients say, “I don’t want to divorce my husband, I just want him to WAKE UP and take his healing seriously. I want him to see what I see - that his past wounding is informing and infecting our ability to create a healthy partnership. I’m doing my own healing work, why won’t he? The codependent part of us sometimes wants others to heal, more than they themselves actually want to heal. Sometimes we stick around in unhealthy dynamics in the name of love. Sometimes we try to help our partner see where they need to heal - but at the expense of ourselves. So, if you’re wondering how the heck do I get my partner to see me hat under and take this seriously?! Before you leave, try saying something like this: “I need you to understand something. I don’t believe our marriage can get better without you being willing to look at and heal some of the deeper wounds you’ve been carrying from your past. I believe many of the patterns we’re experiencing in our relationship are rooted in unresolved childhood experiences, emotional wounds, limiting beliefs, and protective mechanisms that you’ve developed over a lifetime. And while we can work on communication, conflict resolution, and learning how to navigate disagreements better, I don’t believe those things will fundamentally change our relationship if the deeper issues driving our behaviors remain unaddressed. Our romantic relationships often bring our deepest wounds to the surface. The fears, insecurities, attachment wounds, and protective patterns we developed growing up don’t simply disappear when we become adults. They show up in how we experience intimacy, handle conflict, respond to our partners, and navigate emotional vulnerability. I cannot keep trying to repair the relationship while the underlying patterns that continue damaging it remain untouched. I’m not asking you to be perfect. I’m asking you to become willing to understand yourself, take responsibility for your emotional world, and do the deeper work of healing. I’ve been willing to look at myself and my contribution to our relationship. I need a partner who is equally willing to look at himself. I love you, but love alone isn’t enough to create a healthy marriage. We both have to be willing to do the work. And I’m reaching a point where I don’t know how much longer I can continue in a relationship where that willingness isn’t there.” If you don’t address your childhood trauma or hurts from the past, your romantic relationships will. If you’d like 1:1 support with this (or are looking for a program for your partner to dive into his own healing work) - let’s talk. I’ve got you. Comment HEAL below and I’ll get in touch with you on next steps. Ps. You can also click the link in my bio to book a call and learn more. ❤️Erica #menswork #divorce #marriage #stayorgo #separation
