@profkrisminion: HOW TO GET AND READ SHIP'S POSITION ON PAPER CHARTS! What we need is Latitude and Longitude. To easily get the position, First always know the DEGREES (symbol: ° ) Second know the direction on paper chart tables. (It is already indicated if its: N/S for Latitude - written 2 digits only E/W for longitude- written 1-3 digits max Third know the minutes (symbol: ' ) Always know the CHART SCALING always. On this example- we got 10 lines means 1 minute. -always look for a straight line to drag near to your position as demonstrated on this tutorial. Next in proper reading the Latitude and Longitude: always read by SINGLE DIGIT! In our example the ship's position is read by: Latitude: 3 4 degrees 3 4 point 8 minutes North Longitude: 1 3 5 degrees 0 5 point 7 minutes East (You can read either point or decimal for the dot in position) Why? This is useful if you are going to report on VHFs or VTS broadcast. Let me know in the comment if you have faster way for this demonstration. In frame: D/Cdt.
