@ohioentandallergy: Myth vs. Reality: When it comes to anaphylaxis, Benadryl is not enough. While it may make you sleepy and temporarily block histamine, the allergic reaction continues in your body. The most effective way to stop anaphylaxis is with epinephrine. Traditionally it is administered through an EpiPen, and now even with needle-free nasal spray options! If you live with severe allergies, talk to your doctor about the right emergency treatment plan for you. #AllergyCare #DrReact #AnaphylaxisAwareness #OhioENTAndAllergyPhysicians
Im glad you said something cause its hard for me to be nice to people that say something without researching what they say

I mean I'm not going to use an epi for random hives when a benadryl stops the itching. there's a difference. anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction but an allergic reaction is not always anaphylaxis.

histamines are just one of many molecules and cells that contribute to an allergic reaction!

I would never financially recover from using an epi pen multiple times a week for alpha gal reactions 😭. My epi pen is decorative at this point.

But we used that for my sons peanut allergy for multiple times (late onset non violent reaction) and after about 3 doses he’s fine (12 hours) he only ever has hives and it never become a 2 fold response (no vomiting no trouble breathing) this has been our protocol from our allergist for 6 years. Has it changed?

hi :
they only say not to take benadryl cus it can make a reaction seem less worse than it is. if you take it and you know you just are having a mild reaction to a non-life threatening allergy, or if you are still taking steps to address you reaction outside of just benadryl, then it’s fine
