@cgledhill: Folks, as requested, here’s part 2 on this ancient 6000-year old #prehistoric site. It is one of the Medway #Megaliths. I’m not sure why there was a large amount of early #Neolithic activity in this area but it has left some good sites to visit. #historytok #stoneage
Yeah... why is my area in the Midlands so empty of ancient remains? Was life REALLY as shit-boring in the Midlands 5,000 years ago as it is today???

I suspect the areas with a derth of sites were possibly largely under water. the university of Nottingham has an interesting interactive map that allows you to look and see what was happening at your post code in the 800s. I live in Northern Cambridge and was shocked to find my house was under water. over 100s of years of human habitation on these islands I think the sea has swamped and retreated a lot. what we think of as dry land now was not always the case.

I always thought those stones were highly visible markers for people from far and wide to gather. When they didn’t have ways of passing clear maps & info then people would gather at different times of the season like when the sun is bla bla or this flower comes out etc they would make their way there to maybe trade or meet people socially share info & knowledge and celebrate the changes of season or something like that etc.

If there are not any other mounds like that. In the area then they probably have something man made underne.
