And has been happening for centuries. Saami (Sápmi, sámi) people are a very beautiful and diverse distinct group among uralics, and its heartbreaking to see how little people know about them. For the people of the comments. The Sami are native to Sápmi. Its the northern regions of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia. The Scandivans groups are native to only the south but began to conquer and forcibly assimlate the Sami when they reached the north. The Scandivans are indo-european peoples.

I’m Sámi, and I wish more people understood that our culture isn’t something to mock, it’s something to learn from. We’ve always lived close to the land and respected it. Maybe the world needs more of that.

I recently found out that I'm sámi, my great grandma's parents were both from quite assimilated families. I don't know how it would turn up on a DNA test as I'm uncertain of how ethnically sámi her parents actually were after all that assimilation, but in my heart I know I'm Sámi. It hurts too bad for me not to be.
