“Do you even see a dermatologist for your Hidradenitis Suppurativa?” This is probably one of the biggest comments I get. 😂 And yes, I absolutely do! Y’all already know one of my biggest sayings: health is wealth. But I also think conversations like this are a good reminder that everybody is at a different place in their journey with Hidradenitis Suppurativa. For some people, going to a dermatologist isn’t as simple as just making an appointment. There can be fear, insurance issues, access to care, previous negative experiences within the healthcare system, or simply not knowing what’s happening with your body or where to even begin. And not every healthcare provider has the same level of knowledge or experience when it comes to HS. We’re all still learning and continuing to understand more about this condition. Even after all these years, there are still times when I get nervous going into an appointment because I don’t know what to expect. But every time I walk into that office, I remind myself that I’m advocating for me and my community. Y’all know I’m gonna pop out with the questions, I’m gonna speak up if there’s something I don’t understand or don’t feel comfortable with, and I’m really gonna tap in and make sure my voice is heard when it comes to my care. And that’s another reason why I share my journey. 💜 Someone else may still be gathering the courage to make that first appointment. Someone may be trying to find a provider who understands HS. Someone may be navigating insurance or figuring out where to start. Sometimes even connecting with an HS advocacy organization or community can be that first step toward finding the right resources. So yes, your girl sees her dermatologist. 😂 I be clocking IN! But before telling somebody what they “need” to be doing with their health, remember: you never really know what someone is navigating behind the scenes. Everybody’s journey looks different. 🫶🏾💜 #HidradenitisSuppurativa #skincondition #HSWarrior #Dermatologist
