@mtn.alice: *update after posting*: since this video is gaining traction let's use it to support a good cause! Like + share this, bc whatever funds come from it next month will go to Land to Hand--a food security org in Whitefish ✨💛 OG caption: USDA sent out an email this week threatening independent grocers who offer SNAP recipients an additional discount during the shutdown. ***this is my opinion and not representative of anyone I work for :-)
I work at a corporate store and while we can't do much, my mgrs have encouraged us to be much more liberal while reducing and donating items. a teensy cosmetic scuff on an item? technically, in the handbook, that counts as a markdown!

That is absolutely wild. I worked at our local food Co-Op in Bozeman and any member enrolled in SNAP automatically gets 30% off EBT eligible items. I really think it would be so evil to discontinue that and I’m not even sure HOW they could feasibly take that discount away in good conscience.

Yeah I work for a grocery chain that has 1200+ stores, we received no such email, perhaps it was independent stores exclusively

Ok I actually thought they just don’t care about poor people, but the cruelty really IS the point!

Omg - I work for INFRA and I recently realized the store you work for is a part of our association! So cool! There was a lot of discussions about this on our discussion board today- so disheartening and disgusting.

I just hope people remember that the government is actively intervening the acts of private citizens to attempt to starve out the weakest

If you’re in Texas, most of us shop local ONLY. HEB and Central Market donate MILLIONS of dollars in food yearly and just announced they’re fonating millions more. Support local!

how would this be different from some kids places (museums, activity centers etc.) having a special rate for EBT recipients?

don't support grocery stores they are literally for-profit, even local. supporting local is good but you have to realize they still forward their profits to the owners of the products they sell (think of your local running store selling Nike; Nike gets the cut). Try to find a food bank and give.

this is poop and I'm happy people are finding work arounds cuz we gotta HELP THE PEOPLE but I'm also shocked that there can be any sort of regulation on what a private business can do in terms of BENEFITTING others by giving them discounts. I work at a restaurant and my restaurant can give a discount to whoever they want for any reason they want to so what is the difference with a grocery store? it's not discrimination TO HELP PEOPLE!?
