@lets_be_clear_canada: Let’s be clear: you don’t “beat” melanoma — you live with it. This is my story of learning to survive, heal, and protect the skin I once took for granted. #MelanomaAwareness #SkinCancerSurvivor

My doctor didn't even think mine was a worry but humoured me and did a biopsy. Luckily we caught it before it spread. Sending you lots of love ❤️

I lost my best friend to metastatic melanoma of the brain. They couldn't even find the initial lesion by that time (disappearing moles are also a red flag) His first symptom was a seizure. It was so quick after that.

Thank you for sharing! I always feel crazy when people look at me while I slather my children in spf (lotion—not spray) all summer.

Never been so thankful to be raised by a redhead that burnt easily growing up and did everything to teach me how to prevent burning

Well said. during summer in NZ we have a 5 minute burn time due to the hole in the ozone. High risk of skin cancer and I always wear sunglasses.

Skin cancer is an epidemic that not many people are talking about. Thank you for sharing your story. I only started to take care in my 50's. I use sun screen everyday and I wear 50 UPS+ clothing when I am outside for long periods of time and yes, a wide brim hat! Take care.

I hope this gets resolved for you. In 2008 I lost someone to skin cancer. When he got diagnosed never did it cross my mind that he wouldn’t be here. It’s good to use your platform to educate on this subject. I would never crossed my mind to check my moles had it not touched my life.

Thanks for sharing; its a lot to handle. However it happens no one is guaranteed immunity and your experience could help save lives! We take too much for granted 😪

A couple years ago I was messaging with my little brother’s best friend from when we lived in England. He was 7 when we immigrated to Canada. I was 11. He told me that he remembered me as the “brown girl who was really nice”. That memory is from the 70’s when sun lotion was coconut oil. That’s how it was. Just as you said “we didn’t prevent it, we treated it”.
