The car ride home felt unbearably heavy. Not because of anger. Not because of the scandal waiting for them tomorrow. But because for the first time in years… Their daughter saw what it felt like to have both her parents beside her publicly. And she loved it. Rain continuously poured outside the tinted windows while the city lights blurred into streaks of gold and white. The driver remained silent in the front seat, wisely pretending not to hear anything. In the backseat, Lale had fallen half asleep against Miu’s side, still clutching her small stuffed bunny tightly like she was afraid somebody would take it away from her too. Her tiny fingers were wrapped around Miu’s sleeve. As if letting go would make her disappear again. Miu stared down at their daughter quietly. The scratch on Lale’s cheek was still visible. And every time Miu looked at it, rage burned in her chest all over again. Lena sat beside them silently. One hand pressed against her lips. The other clenched tightly over her knee. Thinking. Calculating. Panicking. Because she already knew what would happen next. Parents in that office recognized Miu instantly. Somebody definitely recorded videos. Someone probably posted already. Entertainment pages would tear them apart by morning. Secret wife. Hidden daughter. Eight years. Questions would explode everywhere. Why did she hide them? Was the marriage fake? Was the child accidental? Was Miu ashamed? The media would create thousands of stories from one moment. And Lena hated it. Not for herself. For Lale. Only for Lale. Miu suddenly broke the silence quietly. “I don’t regret going there.” Lena closed her eyes. Of course she didn’t. Because Miu loved loudly. Always. Dangerously. “I know,” Lena answered softly. Miu looked at her immediately. That response surprised her. Because she expected another argument. Another reminder about privacy. Another lecture about risks. But Lena only looked exhausted. Miu swallowed hard. “You’re angry.” “I’m scared.” The honesty in Lena’s voice made Miu quiet. Lena rarely admitted fear. Especially not like this. The business world knew Lena Schuett as ruthless. Untouchable. Cold. A woman capable of destroying companies with one meeting. But Miu knew better. Because every terrifying thing Lena did came from one place only: Protection. Lena finally spoke again. “You left your filming set.” “Our daughter was crying.” “There were reporters outside your location.” “I know.” “You could’ve been followed.” “I know.” Lena’s voice tightened slightly. “Miu—” “What did you want me to do?” Miu suddenly snapped, tears already building in her eyes. “Stay there pretending to shoot romantic scenes while our daughter was alone?” Lena immediately went silent. Because she couldn’t answer that. Miu laughed bitterly and wiped her eyes angrily. “For years, Lena… for years I listened to everything.” Her voice cracked. “I stayed hidden. I avoided interviews about relationships. I lied every single time people asked if I had someone.” Lena looked away. “You think that didn’t kill me too?” Miu continued shakily. “I missed school events because we were scared people would connect me to Lale.” Every word became more painful. “I watched other celebrity mothers post their children proudly while I had to pretend mine didn’t exist in public.” Lena’s breathing quietly faltered. “And today…” Miu looked down at Lale sleeping against her, “…our daughter looked shocked that I came for her.” That sentence shattered the remaining calmness inside the car. Lena pressed her eyes shut hard. Because she noticed it too. That look on Lale’s face earlier. Shock. Disbelief. Relief. As if she genuinely thought Miu might not come. Miu’s voice became smaller. “She thanked me like I was a visitor.” Lena finally looked at her. And seeing Miu cry silently almost destroyed her completely. “She said ‘thank you for coming,’ Lena…” Miu laughed painfully. “As if being there for my child is some special event.” “No—” “Yes,” Miu interrupted softly. “That’s what hurt the most.” Silence filled the car again.
